Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam's name is a synonymous with the revival and study of the purity of Natya shastra and Bharatha Nrithyam and she opened a new chapter in the history of Bharathanatyam. Acclaimed as a rare combination of a dancer, research scholar, choreographer, music composer, teacher, author and ideologist. She was the first to bridge the gap between theory and practise. She is the receipient of several accolades and awards from India and abroad, among which are the Padmashree, the Fujuoka Asian cultural prize, Japan, Bharata Sastra Rakshaman and Padma Bhushan.
